BENGALURU, India (AP) — Just hours away from several of India’s major tiger reserves in the southern city of Mysuru, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to announce Sunday how much the country’s tiger population has recovered since its flagship conservation program began 50 years ago. Protesters, meanwhile, will tell their own stories of how they have been displaced by such wildlife conservation projects over the last half-century.Project Tiger began in 1973 after a census of the big cats found India’s tigers were fast going extinct through habitat loss, unregulated sport hunting, increased poaching and retaliatory killing by people. Laws attempted to address those issues, but the conservation model centered around creating protected reserves where ecosystems can function undisturbed by people.Several Indigenous groups say the conservation strategies, deeply influenced by American environmentalism, meant uprooting numerous communities that had lived in the forests for mi...Bouanga's hat trick sinks Austin FC in Los Angeles

Minnesota United’s record went to five and oh no on Saturday. After a five-match unbeaten start to 2023, the Loons were shut out and gave up multiple goals for the first time this year in a 2-1 loss to Chicago Fire at Soldier Field.Minnesota (3-1-2) had won three straight road games, but their franchise-record-tying form on the road was ended by Chicago (2-1-3).Minnesota had been getting results while operating in narrow margins. They came up well short Saturday. When the Loons traded for Kei Kamara in the summer of 2020, there was a gentleman’s agreement he wouldn’t play against his former team, Colorado Rapids, that season.MNUFC could have used a similar setup Saturday, as the 38-year-old forward scored two first-half goals.Kamara scored one goal for Minnesota in 454 minutes in 2020, and he doubled that total Saturday. Ryan Hartman seemed to know exactly what he was doing before the Wild played host to the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night at Xcel Energy Center.Shortly after warmups started, Hartman skated the length of the red line at center ice, buzzed by Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington, then casually fired a puck into the boards straight ahead of him. It was almost as if Hartman were letting Binnington know, “Hey, I’m right here.”Remember, when the Wild played the Blues last month? Chaos ensued after Hartman clipped Binnington ever so slightly in the crease, triggering the very reaction Hartman was looking for as Binnington clocked him with his blocker after the whistle. That was enough for Binnington to get kicked out of he game, and the following day, the NHL Department of Player Safety suspended him.On Saturday, Hartman got the last laugh, too, sparking the Wild to a 5-3 win over the Blues. He scored a shorthanded goal, added a shorthanded assist and missed out on the Go...Husband sought after wife found dead in Riverside County home
