(AP) — Cole Doyle recovered from a rocky start to throw four touchdown passes and Jordan Jackson ran for two more as St. Francis (PA) rolled to a 49-14 win over Central Connecticut in its season finale Saturday afternoon. The Red Flashes (4-6) finished third in the Northeast Conference at 4-3, two games behind conference champion Duquesne.Doyle threw two interceptions before he completed his second pass to a teammate in the first quarter. Luquay Washington recorded the interception; a 52-yard pick-6 for Central Connecticut.Doyle threw three touchdown passes, two to Dawson Snyder, including a 32-yard score, and Jackson dashed 28 yards to give St. Francis a 28-7 lead at intermission. Authorities are investigating an apparent murder-suicide in Rehoboth on Saturday, officials said.Officers conducted a well-being check on Summer Street around 11 a.m. after getting a 911 call from a relative of Barbara Cruz, 77, of Tiverton, Rhode Island, when she heard shouting and then the phone disconnected, according to a statement issued by the Bristol District Attorney’s Office. When officers arrived they found two deceased gunshot victims and an uninjured 84-year-old woman. A preliminary investigation suggests Omar Bradley, 72, who had been living at the home with the 84-year-old woman, shot and killed the 84-year-old woman’s sister and then himself, according to the release. The deceased sister has been identified as Cruz. WORCESTER — In the Div. 2 volleyball state finals, No. 1 Westborough (21-1) looked to defend its title against No. 3 Canton (24-1) at Worcester State University. The top-seeded Rangers put together a clinic, rolling to a 3-0 victory to repeat as champions.“I’m extremely proud of our girls. DEVENS — Halfway through the cross country season it looked as though Cambridge’s Aoife Shovlin may not regain her strength for strong showings in the championship race.Shovlin proved any naysayers wrong with a big smile across the finish line in the Div. 1 race at Saturday’s Meet of Champions.Racing in chilly conditions on the challenging course, Shovlin assumed the lead early and turned it into a runaway. Shovlin was never challenged as she danced across the finish line in 18 minutes, 6.29 seconds to easily defend her title. Oliver Ames’ Katie Sobieraj was a distant second to Shovlin in 18:29.21 and Westfield’s Megan Moran grabbed the bronze in 18:29.69.Shovlin was far more aggressive this go around than last year.“I wanted to run from the front and see just how fast I could go,” she said. “This definitely boosted my confidence.
