DHAKA (AP) — Voters in Bangladesh began casting their ballots Sunday as polls opened in an election fraught with violence and a boycott from the main opposition party, paving the way for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Awami League to seize a fourth consecutive term.Authorities said at least 18 arson attacks were reported across the country since late Friday, with 10 of them targeting polling places. Four people died Friday in an arson attack on a passenger train heading toward the capital, Dhaka. The incidents have intensified tensions ahead of the parliamentary elections that the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its allied groups said they would shun.Campaigning in the South Asian nation of 169 million has been marred with violence as at least 15 people have been killed in recent months. HARVEY, Ill. — The City of Harvey is responding to allegations from residents who claim that apartments in the city were boarded up while tenants were still inside. Videos circulating on social media on Friday night reportedly showed crews boarding up an apartment building near East 145th Street and South Halsted Street.In a statement shared on Saturday, a spokesperson for the City of Harvey said the buildings at 14437 Halsted Street had been declared unlivable, and evacuation was mandatory by Oct. 28. City officials said the notice to the property owners also emphasized the responsibility to communicate the information to tenants. One person was hospitalized after their vehicle was found crushed under a semi-truck on a Redlands freeway Saturday.Redlands fire crews responded to a collision on the eastbound lanes of the 10 Freeway near the Ford Street exit at around 5:45 a.m.Arriving crews found a small four-door sedan completely wedged underneath the trailer of a parked semi-truck on the side of the freeway.The driver was trapped inside the sedan, requiring crews to use the jaws of life to cut the vehicle away from the driver. By Bay City NewsThe Chevron refinery in Richmond notified the city of a Level 1 incident due to flaring Saturday afternoon, city officials said.The episode occurred around 3:30 p.m. and flaring is no longer occurring, the city said in a statement.“There is no public health risk at this time, however residents might smell an odor in the area of the refinery,” the city said.A Level 1 incident is the least severe step of a three-tier Community Warning System.
