FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — A nursing student from Sacred Heart University in Connecticut submitted a paper on the importance of training the public in CPR before leaving for spring break. Just 12 hours later, she was administering CPR at an airport to help save a man's life. Senior nursing major Natalie Davies was waiting for her flight at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, where she was set to head to New Orleans to begin her spring break trip, when she heard someone scream. SHU school officials said Davies saw a man lying on the ground, and her instincts took over. Along with another passenger, whom she later learned was a cardiologist, Davies began to respond to the unconscious man. "With my clinical experience, plus my work in the emergency room at Yale New Haven Hospital, I just reacted," Davies said. Davies and the cardiologist couldn't find a pulse, so she began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) compressions. Someone nearby brought the pair an automated external defibrilla...Where will Gophers players be picked in NFL Draft?
Published Fri, 15 Nov 2024 07:49:37 GMT
The Gophers football program is producing NFL draft picks at a rate unseen for Minnesota in decades.Eleven U players have been selected over the past three drafts (2020-22), and this is the foundation for what can happen this week. If three more players are drafted from Thursday to Saturday, those 14 total across four consecutive drafts would be the most since 1988-91.If four or more prospects come off the board in Kansas City, Mo., it would be the most since 19 were picked from 1971-74. That stands as the program record in the common draft era (post-1970).“That is a really healthy program,” head coach P.J. Fleck said.All-America center John Michael Schmitz is most likely to be the first Gophers player to hear his name called, likely in the second round but possibly in the first. Cornerback Terell Smith and safety Jordan Howden are the next top U draft prospect forecast to go in the middle to late rounds. The Gophers’ other draft hopefuls are All-American running back Mo Ibrahi...Hot Pot restaurant to open in Niskayuna

Early signs point to yes

ST. LOUIS - One of baseball's biggest stars comes to St. Louis next week. Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Angels pay a visit to Busch Stadium for a three-game series from May 2-4. Ohtani, one of few players in MLB history to exceed as a hitter and pitcher at the same time, is quite the sensation. His decorated resume includes an American League MVP and MVP runner-up honors, a Silver Slugger Award at DH and a fourth-place Cy Young finish over his last two full seasons. And just last month, Ohtani led Japan to a World Baseball Classic title behind several key hits and dominant stretches on the mound. RELATED - Albert Pujols confident that 2023 Cardinals will overcome slow start The Angels use Ohtani as a hitter on a near-daily basis and usually line him up for one start (or occasionally two) each week. With the Angels' current setup, it seems there's a very strong chance he could pitch in St. Louis next week. Ohtani's next start is scheduled for this Thursday, a series finale aga...Opinion: Land swaps favorable to rich owners undermine Colorado’s public lands

In 2017, the public lost 1,470 acres of wilderness-quality land at the base of Mount Sopris near Aspen. For decades, people had hiked and hunted on the Sopris land, yet the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) handed it over to Leslie Wexner, former CEO of Victoria’s Secret and other corporations, at his request. The so-called “equivalent terrain” he offered in return was no match for access to trails at the base of the 13,000-foot mountain. This ill-considered trade reveals how land management agencies pander to wealthy interests, do not properly value public land, and restrict opportunities for public involvement. It’s an ongoing scandal in Colorado that receives little attention.Since 2000, the BLM and the Forest Service have proposed over 150 land exchanges in Colorado. Last year alone, the agencies proposed to trade more than 4,500 acres of public lands, worth over $9 million, in three major Colorado land exchanges.Land to be traded away includes precious riverfront, lands recommended...Five weeknight dishes: These dinners make being green quite easy (and fast)

By Emily Weinstein, The New York TimesThis is the exact moment every year when spring takes hold on New York Times Cooking, and everyone lunges for green recipes that mirror the season. Green pizzas, pastas and salads abound; green sauces are unstoppable. I stock asparagus in my fridge and eat it with whatever I’m cooking (although really it’s best with runny eggs). So I’ve got five fast, ultra-green recipes for you this week.1. Baked Salmon and Dill RiceFragrant dill rice is a natural accompaniment to salmon, and a complete meal of the two is made easy here by baking them together in one dish. Add fresh or dried dill to basmati rice, which is eventually topped with salmon covered in a tangy, sweet and spicy paste of mayo, lemon zest, honey and dried chile flakes. To ensure the rice is perfectly fluffy without overcooking the fish, the grains are baked until most of the water is absorbed before the salmon is added over the top.By Naz DeravianYield: 4 servingsTotal time: 40 minutesIn...Truck hits pedestrians, apartment building in Mid-Wilshire, killing woman and hospitalizing 2
