STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — With Jim Harbaugh banned by the Big Ten Conference, J.J. McCarthy, Blake Corum and No. 2 Michigan played unfazed by a scandal that has hounded the program for weeks — and their toughest opponent yet — grinding past No. 9 Penn State 24-15 Saturday.Corum ran for 145 yards and two touchdowns, McCarthy made few key plays with his arms and legs and the Wolverines (10-0, 7-0, No. 3 CFP) improved to 3-0 since it was revealed the program was under NCAA investigation for a sign-stealing scheme. The struggles in big games continued for coach James Franklin and Penn State (8-2, 5-3, No. 10 CFP), which scored a combined 26 points in losses to Big Ten East rivals Ohio State and Michigan this season. In a game Harbaugh no doubt loved from afar, on what turned into a chilly and gray day in Happy Valley, the Wolverines ran the ball on 32 straight plays that counted, starting with the final two of the first half and ending with a couple of kneeldowns. No 8 ALABAMA 49, KENTUCKY...AC Milan again wastes a two-goal lead after 2-2 draw at Lecce. OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Ryan Kalkbrenner was mostly invisible on the offensive end in Creighton’s opener and again in the first half against North Dakota State. But the eighth-ranked Bluejays made it a point to feed him the ball coming out of halftime Saturday, and the All-Big East center responded with a flurry that helped put away the Bison in an 89-60 win.“Everybody’s job is easier if we can establish him,” coach Greg McDermott said. “If you’re playing against Ryan Kalkbrenner, you’re scared to death of him because he’s so efficient once he catches it.”Creighton’s strategy in the first half was to emphasize mid-range and 3-point shooting to stretch out the Bison’s defense. NDSU didn’t budge, and Kalkbrenner got only one shot attempt and very few other touches. On the first possession of the second half, Kalkbrenner took an entry pass from Baylor Scheierman and converted it into an easy basket. Negotiations resumed Saturday between bargaining teams for the Andover Education Association and Andover School Committee after members voted to strike on Thursday night. The bargaining session followed a day of picketing outside of Andover schools, which were scheduled to be open Friday, as well as a community rally that drew more than 1,000 people to the Andover Town Common. In a statement, the Andover Education Association said, “Our strike vote has initiated the kind of bargaining we have wanted for months. We have a lot of ground to cover, but both sides are talking and that is because the community has voiced its support for what educators are fighting for.
