ST. LOUIS – Two teachers from the St. Louis region have advanced to the finalist stage as nominees for the 2024 Missouri Teacher of the Year award. Charlie Brown is the self-proclaimed “Tomato King” of Denver (and had T-shirts made up to prove it).The former Denver city councilman has been gardening for 50 years and currently has 165 plants growing in his backyard garden that wraps around his ranch house near Observatory Park.But “it’s not easy growing tomatoes in Colorado,” he said. Head-On Collision near Lockhart Gulch Road Left Man and Woman DeadSCOTTS VALLEY, CA (September 1, 2023) – Early Wednesday evening, a traffic collision on Skypark Drive claimed the lives of Laurie Bryant and Steven Bryant.The crash happened just before 5:00 p.m. on the road between Skypark Drive and Lockhart Gulch Road.According to reports, a gold sedan collided head-on with a white commercial van for unknown reasons.Responding emergency personnel declared the two occupants of the sedan dead at the scene. Later, the Santa Cruz County Coroner’s Office identified the two victims as 58-year-old Laurie E. Bryant and 62-year-old Steven L. Bryant. (KRON) -- Five months after former Oakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong was fired, Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao said she's become frustrated with the process of trying to replace him. (KRON) -- Two suspects were arrested Thursday in connection to a retail theft, according to the Santa Clara Police Department.Around 5 p.m., two suspects stole a cart of items from a local business in the 3500 block of Homestead Road, police said. The thieves attempted to steal an employee's phone after they were confronted by that store employee. San Jose women charged after infested langsat fruit seized The suspects fled the store and the employee began taking pictures of the suspects' car. The thieves then attempted to run over the employee that was continuing to take pictures, SCPD said. The Broward Sheriff’s Office on Thursday arrested a deputy accused of committing fraud.Deputy Fredtajah Pinkney, 24, is facing two counts of uttering a forged instrument that she attempted to use to secure a residential lease on an apartment. According to BSO, an investigation took place in July when detectives received a tip regarding Pinkney’s activities. During the course of their investigation, detectives found that in July of 2021, Pinkney claimed that she worked at a Broward County school and created forged pay stubs from the school in order to fill out the lease application.An official with the school told detectives that Pinkney was never an employee. It was also revealed during the investigation, that in August of this year, Pinkney once again used the forged pay stubs from the school when she applied for a lease at a Coral Springs apartment community in May 2022.
