AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) - A settlement in principle has been reached in a lawsuit that halted the further openings of retail cannabis shops across the state. It has been nearly four months since the New York Supreme Court ordered an injunction to stop the application process for those looking to open a pot shop. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Local officials announced that $250,000 will be awarded to two organizations to combat food insecurity. Officials cited data that suggests one in ten people in Albany County are considered food insecure and one in seven children are going to school hungry. The funding will be split between the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York and its community agency partners and the United Way of the Greater Capital Region. ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - One teenager was shot Wednesday in north St. Louis County, and the gunfire caused one driver to crash nearby, police said. The shooting happened around 3 p.m. Wednesday near the area of Larimore Road and Oak Parkway Lane. Police first responded to a ShotSpotter alert from the scene. When officers arrived, they found a 17-year-old boy who suffered a gunshot wound. The victim was rushed to a hospital for treatment, but his injuries are considered non-life-threatening. ST. LOUIS - A St. Louis County man, one of five people linked to a criminal enterprise, was sentenced to federal prison Wednesday for his role in a drug conspiracy. A judge has ordered Marvel Sherell, 23, to 11 years behind bars, plus four years of supervised release after completing his term. The Drug Enforcement Administration says that Sherell was selling meth and fentanyl and used a confidential source to purchase drugs. SHANNON COUNTY, Mo – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is reaching out to the public for help in identifying a poacher who illegally shot and killed a bull elk near Klepzi Mill in Shannon County over the past weekend. A local deer hunter made the discovery and told MDC of the incident.Shannon County Conservation Agent Brad Hadley located the adult elk, which had been shot and left in the vicinity of Klepzig Mill during Missouri’s firearms deer season opening weekend on Nov. 11 and 12. 65-Year-Old Pedestrian Fatally Struck in Deadly Collision near Valencia RoadTUCSON, AZ (November 15, 2023) – Michael Mena lost his life and Jesus Cesena was arrested Sunday night in a hit-and-run incident on South 12th Avenue. First responders arrived to the scene near Valencia Road around 10:00 p.m.According to investigators, Jesus Enrique Camacho Cesena was driving a black Dodge Ram at approximately 70 mph with a female passenger. Per reports, Cesena then collided with Mena as he crossed South 12th Avenue alongside a companion.Medical personnel arrived and pronounced 65-year-old Mena dead at the scene. Following initial procedures, law enforcement detained 18-year-old Cesena on charges of felony hit-and-run causing serious injury or death.
