FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Multiple state capitols received threats Wednesday morning that led to evacuations or lockdowns as police investigated, but no evidence of dangerous items was immediately found. The warnings came after a spate of false reports of shootings at the homes of public officials in recent days.Connecticut, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi and Montana were among the states that evacuated their capitols. Lawmakers in Kentucky and Mississippi have begun meeting in legislative sessions. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the Capitol was evacuated while state police investigated a threat received by the Secretary of State’s Office. He said everyone was safe and officials were aware of similar threats made to other offices across the country. CICERO, Ill. — Police are investigating the shooting that left two women dead in Cicero on Tuesday night to see if those deaths and the death of a man in a nearby park are connected.The shooting took place inside a home, Cicero police say, around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 1800 block of South 48th Court. Police say the shooting was domestic-related. Officers found two women, ages 19 and 29, badly injured in the shooting. They were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.The Cook County Medical Examiner has identified one of the victims as Myeshia Newby, 19. The other victim has been identified by neighbors as Jessica Hughes, 29.Later Wednesday morning, Cicero officials say a man was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a nearby park on 16th Street. JOLIET, Ill. — The man accused of fatally stabbing a 6-year-old Palestinian American boy and injuring his mother in unincorporated Plainfield appeared in court Wednesday.The family of the boy, Wadea Al-Fayoume, held a candlelight vigil outside the Will County courthouse before 71-year-old's Joseph Czuba's hearing.Authorities allege Czuba, targeted Wadea and his mother Hanaan Shahin, on Oct. 14 because of their Muslim faith and as a response to the war between Israel and Hamas. KANE COUNTY, Ill. — A man pleaded guilty Tuesday for murdering his wife who filed for divorce and was considering a court order to remove him from the home.Timothy Gordon, 48, of Montgomery, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder following the incident on Halloween in 2022.During the hearing, Gordon admitted to the murder.Prosecutors outlined the motive during the hearing and said that Gordon's wife, Yajaira Gordon, recently filed for divorce and was possibly seeking a court order to remove him from the home they still shared at the time.Gordon became angry after learning of her considering a court order. Ziegler recorded himself having sex with a woman who has accused him of rape, according to the documents. AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin Police have found an APD cold-case homicide from 2018 that may be linked to Raul Meza Jr., 63, according to a new search warrant affidavit. Austin Police detectives filed Tuesday a search warrant to gain access to Meza’s Google account, which police believe will help them uncover more details in the murders Meza is already linked to, as well as any additional cold case homicides. In the affidavit, Patrick Reed with the Austin Police Department wrote a detective "identified an APD Cold Case Homicide from 2018 that matches the Modus Operandi of Meza."
