Wars are gruesome, deadly, and horrifying despite movies glorifying soldiers killing enemies under the perception of patriotism or heroism. Wars have far-reaching physical and psychological implications for soldiers and their families, typically not depicted in movies or shows. Hollywood usually depicts wars as a means of national unity, bonding among soldiers, and soldiers’ heroism in defending their country or national spirit. Many books about war also glorify soldiers or their unique relationships with their peers, friends, and loved ones. However, Hollywood does not show war’s gruesome consequences, leaving thousands of soldiers crippled or dead. Popular media does not show how war instills lifelong psychological implications in survivors in the form of depression, PTSD, and other disorders. Aaron’s War by Richard McMaster is a unique book offering an entirely different perspective by highlighting the adverse implications of the war on soldiers.Thousands of books portray WWII ci...James Tzitzon – Bringing the History of the Registry of Motor Vehicle Inspector to Life

However, many history books are necessarily tedious and exhaustive because they integrate multiple elements to portray information about organizations or events. Santa Clara City Councilmember Anthony Becker has pleaded not guilty for allegedly leaking a confidential civil grand jury report to the San Francisco 49ers last year and lying about it.Becker was indicted last month on a felony perjury charge and a misdemeanor charge for leaking the document, which criticized the council’s cozy relationship with the NFL team, to former 49ers spokesperson Rahul Chandhok and to reporters or editors at the Silicon Valley Voice. The councilmember made his first court appearance late last month but declined to enter into a plea at the time so he could seek outside counsel instead of being represented by public defender Christopher Montoya. Becker, who was late to Wednesday’s hearing, was represented once again by Montoya. The public defender told reporters after his plea that in his experience, “first time impressions of a case are often wrong or incomplete.”Becker faces four years in county jail if convicted on the perjury charge. His next court dat...Summer streaming 2023: 11 movies you won’t want to miss

HOUSTON — The Giants did not arrive here in high spirits, suffering from stomach bugs, muscle strains and a losing streak, but they will head home feeling much better, not only because most of the nasty virus players and staff picked up in Mexico City had mostly subsided.Behind an excellent outing from Logan Webb and a late-awakening offense, the Giants hung on to win their second straight over the defending World Series champions, 4-2, and earned their third series win of the season. The Astros, who had not been shut out until this series, were held without a run for 17 consecutive innings, until Alex Bregman took Webb deep in the eighth inning, ending the Giants’ bid for a second consecutive shutout.Webb needed 46 pitches to make it through the first two innings, mostly due to Mitch Haniger muffing a pop fly in left field and LaMonte Wade Jr. letting a ground ball under his glove, but he used the exact same amount as he cruised through the next five innings.Outdueling Astros ...Adorable mountain lion pals leaving Oakland for forever home; elephant seeking new friends

(KRON) -- Two mountain lions that were rescued as cubs in separate parts of Santa Cruz County will arrive at their new forever home Thursday. The mountain lions, named Hazel and Holly, became inseparably bonded with each other while they were rehabilitated for months at the Oakland Zoo. The Oakland Zoo has one of the top cougar cub rescue facilities in California. Zoo officials wrote Wednesday, "It’s Cub Departure Day Eve — hard to believe we’ll soon be saying goodbye to Hazel and Holly. They’ve come so far, from being critically ill rescues to bonded, thriving young mountain lions. We want to acknowledge everyone who helped rescue, rehabilitate, and raise these orphaned cubs. It has clearly taken a village to care for these two, and we appreciate everyone’s efforts along the way."Holly and Hazel bonded as they grew up together at the Oakland Zoo's wildlife rescue center.
