AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — Phil Mickelson will never receive the sort of adulation that once shadowed his every step.Too many missteps along the way.But give Lefty credit. He sure LIVened things up Sunday afternoon at the Masters.Already the oldest major champion in golf history, the 52-year-old Mickelson made an impressive run at a fourth green jacket. The fans were a bit timid in their response, even after he drained a 15-foot birdie putt at the final hole for a 7-under 65 — the best score anyone posted on a brisk Easter afternoon. Yet there were definite signs of warming toward the guy who led golf into an ugly civil war.Mickelson has never backed down from his decision to sign up with LIV Golf, eagerly accepting a generational amount of wealth from the Saudi-backed tour, even while acknowledging it came with all sorts of sportswashing baggage. He wound up being the unlikely standard-bearer for the rebel league’s first major showdown with the PGA Tour, though he didn’t want to...Brooks Koepka collapses as Jon Rahm rolls to Masters win

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — Brooks Koepka will no doubt hear the same murmured joke no matter where he goes in the coming days and weeks. If only the Masters was 54 holes.Like those tournaments on the Saudi-back LIV Golf circuit. If that was the case, Koepka would’ve been wearing a green jacket on the 18th green at Augusta National, rather than making the dejected march from there to the locker room. He had a four-shot lead over Jon Rahm when they resumed third rounds that had been halted by weather, and a two-shot lead when the round finished, before shooting 3-over 75 in his final round.Rahm closed with a 69 to finish at 12 under. By the time Koepka slid a birdie putt past on his 72nd hole, he was left at 8 under and tied for second with LIV Golf compatriot Phil Mickelson, whose finishing 65 had sent him shooting up the leaderboard. The previous three times Koepka had a 54-hole lead in a major, he went on to win.“Obviously it’s super disappointing, right? Didn’t play good e...Spieth’s impressive 21 birdies at Masters not enough to win

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — Jordan Spieth made 21 birdies at this year’s Masters, including nine on Sunday while trying to keep pace with partner Phil Mickelson. And it still wasn’t enough to win — or even best the 52-year-old Mickelson.Spieth finished the Masters tied for fourth place at 7 under, five shots behind winner Jon Rahm. But Mickelson also tallied 21 birdies, making eight in the final round, including five in the last seven holes to finish at 8 under and surge past Spieth.“I was trying to honestly just match Phil shot for shot coming in,” Spieth said of the final round at Augusta National. The 29-year-old Spieth said he made too many mental mistakes all week, saying “mental fatigue” led to 10 bogeys and two double bogeys.“I played way too much golf coming into this,” Spieth said. “I mean, this is eight out of ten weeks (playing golf). So I need to change my schedule up going forward to be a little sharper during (Masters) week.”The 2015 Masters champion said he got “lazy...Man killed in officer-involved shooting near Plantation hotel; family seeks answers from police

Setting records is not enough for the 2022-23 Boston Bruins. They apparently have to do it in dramatic fashion. Not only did the B’s set the record for most wins in a season with their 63rd in a 5-3 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers, they rode David Pastrnak’s hat trick that gave the sniper his 58th, 59th and 60th goals of the season to get there.“It’s very special. It’s been a lot of fun, I’m not gonig to lie. And it’s been really enjoyable with the group we have here,” Pastrnak told reporters in Philly. “We knew what was at stake and it was very special to hit it with a game like this. We made history today in the biggest league in hockey, so we defintely appreciate it.”While the B’s leap-frogged the 1995-96 Red Wings and 2018-19 Lightning for the record, Pastrnak became the first Bruin since Phil Esposito in 1974-75 to hit the 60-goal plateau.
