WASHINGTON (Nexstar) – In a case that pitted the First Amendment against discrimination laws, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of a woman who argued she can't be forced to work with LGBTQ+ couples.Lori Smith is an Evangelical Christian from Colorado who designs wedding websites. Smith argued that because her designs are protected by the First Amendment, she has the right to refuse to work with LGBT couples.On Friday, the high court agreed. SCOTIA, N.Y (NEWS10): The Scotia fireworks show presented by Jumpin' Jack's Drive-In has successfully lit the night sky once again. Except for a few cancellations due to weather and the pandemic, this fireworks show has happened every summer for nearly 50 years. But it was nearly cancelled this year, because of financial and safety concerns.“A stabbing happened last year. But um, I was shocked it was cancelled at first.”Thankfully the Schenectady county legislature was able to find a solution so that the show could go on; much to the delight of Jumpin' Jack's President, Mark Lansing.“So yeah, we’re on. COHOES, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A 39-year-old man accused of attacking two people in Cohoes appeared in court on Friday. Thomas Spears pleaded not guilty to four counts, including Attempted Murder in the Second Degree.He was remanded to jail pending an application for bail and is due back in court in August. MALTA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- One person has died after a crash at the intersection of Route 9 and Cherry Choke Road in Malta Friday afternoon. The crash happened around 3:45 p.m. and involved a motorcycle and an SUV.Police said the motorcyclist was taken to Saratoga Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A man is dead after he was involved in a fatal bicycle crash in Ventura on Friday. Around 10:43 a.m., California Highway Patrol authorities responded to reports of a solo bicycle crash eastbound on Rancho Drive, west of Del Norte Road. Police say 74-year-old Michael Chambiss of Ojai was traveling eastbound on Rancho Drive when he lost control of the bike and collapsed onto the asphalt roadway. Chambiss was unresponsive when medical personnel arrived. He was transported to Ojai Valley Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The investigation is still ongoing.
